Egyptian President El-Sisi meets PM Hailemariam Desalegn

Egypt’s visiting President El-Sisi met with Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn this morning at the national jubilee palace. Following the closed door meeting the two leaders met the press and said they have discussed bilateral issues, such as focusing on boosting trade and investment ties between the two countries and security.


Yesterday, the two leaders along with Sudan’s Al Bashir have signed a “declaration of principles” document on the use the Nile water. Prime Minister Hailemariam said that the agreement, which has not been fully disclosed to the public yet, has affirmed the commitment the three countries for closer cooperation.

 
At the presser this morning PM Hailemariam said more that the River Nile, the two countries share common economic opportunities. He referred to the existing economic ties between Egypt and Ethiopia and their decision to enhance further cooperation as a major diplomatic achievement.

 
President El-Sisi on his part added that Egypt and Ethiopia have also reached at an agreement to work together in fighting terrorism in the region.

 
During his three days visit President El-Sisi is expected to meet with senior clergy members of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church, Egyptian business community in Ethiopian as well as deliver a speech at the national parliament.
