Ethiopian reggae singer to be laid to rest today

Popular Ethiopian reggae singer Eyob Mekonnen after passing on in Kenya will be buried in his homeland Ethiopia on Wednesday

EyobMekonnen’s body has returned home on Tuesday so that the funeral service can be held the today.

Eyob passed on in Kenya on Sunday where he had been flown in for specialized treatment after he suffered a stroke.

He had the stroke last Tuesday in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa.

The fans of the 37 year old musician helped raise funds for his treatment after the stroke to facilitate for his medication and care in Kenya.

Eyob was flown into Kenya on Saturday.

He was born in the small town of Jijiga, in eastern Ethiopia.

Eyob in his early days formed a five man group called Zion Band which offered a reggae beat with a distinctive Ethiopian cast.

“His music promotes morality, love peace and social consciousness,” his music promoter Yisakal Entertainment said.
