Addis Abeba, March 3/2017: Too often, people tend to focus on what divides them rather than what we have in common. In that regard, art and culture can play an important role in bringing people together and reminding us of the many things we share. As part of ongoing efforts to promote cultural understanding and acceptance, the U.S. Embassy is pleased to announce that KEIGWIN+COMPANY, an electrifying contemporary dance group from New York, will share its theatrical and exciting interpretation of dance with Ethiopians from March 6-16, 2017.

KEIGWIN+COMPANY will perform at the National Theatre on March 13 and conduct workshops with dance professionals and youths in Addis Abeba. The group also will travel to Hawassa and perform at Hawassa University on March 9.

KEIWGIN+COMPANY’s visit to Ethiopia is sponsored by DanceMotion USA, a program of the U.S. Department of State and produced by the Brooklyn Academy of Music. DanceMotion USA facilitates cultural exchange by promoting and fostering international dialogue about the arts with administrators and technical theater professionals. Through roundtable discussions and training workshops, DanceMotion USA encourages sharing of best practices and seeks to establish a network of global colleagues. The program also brings foreign artists to the U.S. to collaborate with American artists, expanding the cross-cultural exchange.
