Addis Abeba, September 20/2019 –  Adddis Abeba is poised to host “Capture Addis Photo Festival”, the first of its kind 7-day photo festival, from October 19 to October 25, 2019, the organizers said.

A joint even organized by Lela Qellem Plc, a company involved in film production, entertainment and event organizing, in collaboration with Addis Abeba city Administration, Capture Addis Photo Festival “aims to showcase and celebrate our beautiful city of Addis Abeba through photography,” the organizers said.

In a departure from similar events of photo festivals in the past, Capture Addis Photo Festival is open to all residents who want to participate by “submitting pictures they took of Addis Abeba, to express the way they see their city in their own ways.”

Three types of photo competitions will be held during the festival based on photos captured by the city’s residents and submitted to the organizers. “Winners of each exhibition will be awarded a prize by the [Deputy] Mayor of Addis Abeba [Takele Uma] and the winning photos will be displayed at the office of the City Administration. Winners will also have the opportunity to take professional photographs with key personnel.”

Accordingly, the first contest will be a competition of photographs of the city taken by professional photographers. The second contest will feature photos taken by regular residents of the city using either phone or personal camera whereas the third contest will feature photos taken by the diplomatic community.

Aspiring contestants can submit their works using an online registry and compete against a set of criterion including but not limited to, “theme adherence, uniqueness of concept, creativity, clarity of expression, humor and originality.” Entries can be submitted on or before October 05, 2019, according to the event description.

Capture Addis Photo Festival’s closing ceremony will be held at the Sheraton Addis Hotel, and is expected to be attended by the city Deputy Mayor, invited guests, the diplomatic community, and various artists, among others. AS
