Bahir Dar – In remarks today to government officials, faculty and students at the Ethiopian Maritime Training Institute (EMTI) in Bahir Dar, U.S. Ambassador to Ethiopia Patricia M. Haslach announced the establishment of a new visa class for Ethiopians – the C1/D visa. This new crewmember transit visa will facilitate travel to and from the U.S. for shipping vessel crewmembers.
The U.S. Embassy in Addis Abeba issued an alert advising U.S. citizens in Addis Abeba of a potential terrorist attack by the Somali based militant group Al-Shabaab. The alert advised U.S. citizens “to avoid large crowds and places where both Ethiopians and westerners frequent.”
Expands program for participation of persons with disabilities to 49 primary schools
Charlotte McClain-Nhlapo, USAID’s global Coordinator for Disability and Inclusive Development, and world-renowned lawyer and advocate for rights of persons with disabilities and children, visited Ethiopia this week to advance support to people with disabilities and facilitate their inclusion in the country’s development process.
