Addis Abeba, March 26/2020 – The Council of Tigray Regional State announced region-wide state of emergency to prevent the possible spread of #COVID19, Tigray Mass Media Agency reported.
Today’s announcement comes a day after the regional state council meet yesterday and passed the decision to declare a state of emergency in the region.
Accordingly, Tigray regional state has banned all travels within the regional state for the coming 15 days. It has also banned social activities such as weddings and other festivities which will cause a mass gathering of people as well as market gatherings. The regional media said more details will be released shortly.
On March 24 Ethiopia has confirmed its 12th COVID19 case after the first case was confirmed on March 12, 2020. So far, there is no officially confirmed case outside of Addis Abeba.
Yesterday, Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) said that laboratory results from 106 suspected cases of COVID19 have returned negative. However, Dr Eba Abate, Director General of the Institute, said that 20 people who were kept in a quarantine center were still waiting for their laboratory test results. AS
