News: Oromia police detain 11 suspects after grenade attack kills one, injures seven in Adama

Addis Ababa – Adama City police department says one person was killed and seven more people were injured in a grenade attack in a bar in Adama City, in East Shewa Zone of Oromia regional stat on evening of 27 December.

A police officer from the city’s police department told Addis Standard that the attack was carried out around 8:00 PM local time, in a bar called Hatrick Jambo House, located in Dedecha Arara Kebele, Bole sub-city of Adama city. Following the attack the police detained eleven suspects, nine men and two women. The suspects are detained in a police station located in the Bole sub-city.

According to the police officer, further investigations will be carried out to identify the perpetrators of the crime and motives behind it. The result of the inquiry will be made public as soon as the investigation is completed, he said.

The Oromia Region Communications Bureau also confirmed, the grenade explosion and said that one person was killed; but the bureau said the number of people injured were three, adding that the security forces have apprehended individuals suspected to have carried out the attack, and investigation is underway.

On 07 December, Addis Abeba Police announced that seven people were injured when a bomb exploded on the balcony of a grocery store in Lemi Kura sub-city, district (Woreda) 9 of the capital Addis Abeba, and investigations into the explosion were ongoing. AS
