Colors of the Nile International Film Festival

Blue Nile film and television production and film makers association organized the 2nd Colors of the Nile International Film Festival (CONIFF) from 24-31 March 2014. Held at the National Theater the festival introduced the best of African cinema to African audiences. By the time Addis Standard went to the press the festival was scheduled to screen three competitive selections dedicated to features, documentaries and short films by African directors within the last two years. Twenty two directors, producers, distributers, and actors and actresses were expected to attend the festival.  

Of the famous movies to be screened is the Oscar nominated “Life Above All” by the famous South African director, Oliver Schmits, which was expected to be attended by the young star of the film Khomotso Manyaka.(Pictured above)

According to the organizers,the feature competition section includes a range of recent films which are all making their Ethiopian premiere at this festival. The feature selection consists of 11 titles chosen from this year’s entrees; seven impressive documentaries will also compete including both films originating from North Africa. All of the films in this section were made within the last two years. The short films competition contains 15 films which were all made within the last 12 months and which provide a kaleidoscopic vision of images, sounds and stories of the continent that will provide audiences with a real treat, according to the organizers.
