Zambian contractors in Ethiopia for cobblestones course

A delegation of Zambian medium and small-scale contractors is in Ethiopia to confer with their counterparts on matters of road construction using cobblestones.
The seven-man delegation is led by National Association for Medium and Small Scale Contractors (NAMSSC) president Mutale Mpepo.

This is according to a statement issued by the Zambian Embassy in Addis Ababa. Mr Mpepo said when he paid a courtesy call on Zambia’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative in Ethiopia Susan Sikaneta, that the delegation’s visit to that country has been necessitated by the massive infrastructure development being undertaken by President Sata’s administration.

“As you are aware, Zambia is witnessing massive infrastructure development never seen before in the history of the country. Currently we have the Link Zambia 8000, L-400 and Pave Zambia 2000,” Mr Mpepo said.

He said NAMSSC members do not want to sit idly while President Sata is working hard to develop the country. “We have been informed that Ethiopia has made great strides in paving roads using cobblestones, hence our decision to come here,” he said. Ms Sikaneta welcomed the delegation and told them that they are on a very important mission in Ethiopia.

“Indeed, Ethiopia is very much ahead in using cobblestones. It is cheaper, effective, and durable and creates employment for the people. I am glad that your delegation is made up of people drawn from different parts of Zambia, meaning that this technology will reach the whole country,” Mrs Sikaneta said.

The delegation is in Ethiopia on the invitation of the Construction Contractors Association of Ethiopia which has put up a busy schedule for them.

Apart from presentations, they will be taken on site visits. They will also attend an exhibition on equipment and technology. Other members of the delegation are Mr Danny Simumba, Mr Justine Mutale, Mr Lloyd Musonda, Mr Edward Simwanza, Ms Janet Shantumbu and Mr John Mbewe. The delegation returns to Zambia on Monday, September 22, 2014.
