Addis Abeba, March 12/2019 – French President Emmanuel Macron arrived in Addis Abeba for two days official visit upon the invitation of prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.
“This visit follows the working visit by the Prime Minister of Ethiopia to France on 19 October 2018, during which the two leaders reiterated their common determination to work for the strengthening of peace and international security as well as their wish to deepen the bilateral relationship,” according to a statement from the President’s office.
on March 13, on the sideline of the state visit, Ethiopia and France will also sign a space cooperation and economic cooperation initiated by the private sector. More than fifty participants are expected to attend the ceremony, which will take place in the presence and under the auspices of several French and Ethiopian ministers at the Hilton Hotel, according to a statement from the French embassy in Addis Abeba.
PM Abiy Ahmed paid an official visit to France in October 2018, during which the two sides “reaffirmed in a joint statement their willingness to establish a privileged partnership between France and Ethiopia.”
President Macron’s first visit began from Lalibela. He was joined by PM Abiy. During his visit to France, PM Abiy requested support from France for the preservation of the churches of Lalibela.
In addition, “agreements will be signed in the cultural and heritage areas, the defense and the economic fields, in accordance with the commitments made in the joint statement of last October,” the statement from President Marcon’s office added. He is also expected to meet President Sahle-Work Zewde for more bilateral talks.
