News: Fed court passes guilty verdict on Sergeant jailed in connection with army chief, retired general’s assassination

Addis Abeba, June 5, 2021- The Judges at Federal High Court Lideta Branch 3rd Constitutional and Anti-terrorism Bench arrived at guilty veredict on one of the suspects involved in the assassination of General Seare Mekonnen, Chief of staff of the National defense Forces of Ethiopia, and Major General Gezai Abera. 

Private Mesafint Tigabu, the body guard of the late General Seare Mekonnen was named as the main suspect in the assassination that took place at General Seare’s residence on June 22, 2019.  During the trials, the defendant pleaded not guilty and presented three witnesses in his defense. The prosecutor presented seven eye witnesses and documentary evidence leading  the court to arrive at guilty verdict.  

The court gave alternative appointment to June 18, 2021 to hear the defendant’s sentence in mitigating circumstances. AS
